How the video tools work

The tools use the video encoders and decoders built into your browser. Trimming, muting and rotating copy the original video data whenever possible, so there is no generation loss.

Compressing and converting re-encode the video on your own device. A fast computer handles a few minutes of 1080p video in about the time it takes to play it, often faster.
