How to convert a video
- Choose your video.
- Pick the format you need: MP4 plays everywhere, WebM is for websites, MOV for Apple apps, MKV for media players.
- Press Convert and download.
Fast when possible
If the video and sound can be stored in the new format as they are, they are simply copied into it. That takes seconds and loses no quality. Only when the new format needs different codecs (for example WebM needs VP9 or AV1) is the video re-encoded, using the quality you choose.
Good to know
- Opens MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV and MPEG-TS, including films with Dolby Digital (AC-3, E-AC-3) or DTS sound and Apple ProRes video from cameras and editing apps (decoders for these are added when a file needs them). AVI, WMV and FLV can't be opened in a browser.
- iPhone videos in HEVC (H.265) can be read only if your browser and computer support HEVC.
- The new file doesn't keep the original's metadata, such as the recording location or the device name.
- No server-imposed file size limits. The new file is made in your device's memory, so very long videos need a computer with enough free memory.
- It uses your browser's built-in video technology. It works best in current Chrome and Edge; recent Safari and Firefox versions work too. If your browser can't create a format, the tool says so.
Your video stays on your device
The video is processed by your own browser and computer. It is never uploaded, so private and unreleased footage stays with you.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting reduce quality?
Not when the streams can be copied (for example MOV to MP4 with H.264). Re-encoding to a different codec loses a little quality.
Can I convert AVI files?
No. Browsers can't read AVI files, so they can't be converted here.
Is my video uploaded?
No. It is processed in your browser and never sent anywhere.
