Duplicate File Finder
Choose a folder (or many files) and find every file that exists more than once, whatever it is called.

Any files, any number, including whole folders with subfolders.
Your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
Files only count as duplicates when every byte is the same (same size and the same SHA-256 fingerprint), whatever their names. Browsers can't delete files, so remove the extra copies yourself; the list shows where each one is.

How to find duplicate files
- Choose a folder, or drop folders and files on the page.
- Press Find duplicates. Files are compared on your device.
- Review the groups of identical files and remove the extra copies yourself; download the list as CSV if you like.
How it works
- Only files of the same size can be identical, so those are the only ones read.
- Their full content is fingerprinted with SHA-256: files with the same fingerprint are byte-for-byte the same.
- Large files are read in pieces, so folders of any size work; the time needed depends on your disk.
Good to know
- Browsers can't delete or move your files, so nothing is changed on your disk.
- Photos that look alike but were saved differently (resized, re-compressed) are not duplicates here: only exact copies are found.
- Empty files are counted but not listed.
Frequently asked questions
Is my folder uploaded?
No. The files are read by your browser on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Why is choosing a folder asking for permission?
Browsers ask before a page may read a whole folder. The page only reads the files to fingerprint them.
