How to get a color palette from an image
- Choose an image.
- Pick how many colors you want: 5, 8, 12 or 16.
- Copy the palette as HEX, CSS variables or JSON, or download it as a PNG.
Good to know
- The colors are sorted by how much of the image they cover, and each swatch shows its share.
- Click a swatch to add it to your picked colors; click anywhere on the image to pick an exact pixel.
- Transparent parts of PNG and WebP images are ignored.
- The PNG shows each color with its HEX code, ready for a style guide.
How the palette is chosen
Similar colors are grouped together (k-means clustering on a smaller copy of the image), so a few pixels of noise don't become a color of their own. For a photo, 8 to 12 colors usually catch both the main tones and the accents.

Frequently asked questions
Can I check whether two palette colors are readable together?
Yes: copy the HEX codes into the Color Contrast Checker, which tells you whether text in one color is readable on the other (WCAG AA and AAA).
Is my image uploaded?
No. The colors are worked out in your browser and the image is never sent anywhere.
