How to use the SIP calculator

  1. Enter your monthly SIP amount, the expected yearly return and the number of years.
  2. Add a lump sum if you are investing one now.
  3. Read the estimated value and the year-by-year table.

The SIP formula

With installments at the start of each month, the future value is P × ((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i), where P is the monthly investment, i the monthly rate and n the number of months. ₹5,000 a month for 10 years at 12% comes to about ₹11.6 lakh.
