How to convert Excel to JSON

  1. Choose an .xlsx, .xlsm or .ods file.
  2. Pick the sheet and the JSON layout.
  3. Download the JSON, or copy it.

JSON layouts

  • List of objects: the first row gives the names, for example [{"Name": "Ann", "Age": 34}].
  • List of rows: every row as an array, including the first.
  • Empty first-row cells are named "Column 3" and so on; repeated names get "(2)".

Values

  • Numbers stay numbers, TRUE/FALSE become true/false, empty cells become null.
  • Dates become text like "2024-03-01".
  • Values are what the spreadsheet app last calculated.
