1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes, as upload limits and phones count. About 2% is added for the file's own structure. Real results can differ a little, because encoders don't hit a bitrate exactly. The Video Compressor can aim for a file size for you.

Typical bitrates

ResolutionVideo bitrate (24–30 fps)
4K (2160p)35–45 Mbps
1440p16 Mbps
1080p8 Mbps
720p5 Mbps
480p2.5 Mbps
360p1 Mbps

These are YouTube's recommended upload bitrates for H.264 video. Lower bitrates still work for sharing; fast motion needs more.

How to use it

  1. Choose "Bitrate for a file size" or "File size for a bitrate".
  2. Enter the length, and the size or bitrate.
  3. Use the result in your video editor or in the Video Compressor.

How it is worked out

Size = (video bitrate + audio bitrate) × length, plus about 2% for the container. 1 MB here is 1,000,000 bytes, as most upload limits and apps count it.

Typical bitrates

VideoBitrate
1080p 30 fps (YouTube upload)8 Mbps
1080p 60 fps12 Mbps
4K 30 fps35–45 Mbps
720p for sharing2.5–5 Mbps

常见问题

What bitrate fits a 10-minute video in 1 GB?

About 13 Mbps in total, so roughly 12.8 Mbps for video with 128 kbps audio.

Is a higher bitrate always better?

Up to a point. Beyond the typical values above, files grow much more than the quality improves.
