How to make a favicon
- Choose your logo: a square PNG or SVG works best.
- Pick fit or fill, add some space around it, and choose a background if you want one. Check the preview.
- Download the ZIP, put the files in your website's main folder, and paste the HTML code into your pages.
What you get
- favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 pixel sizes, for all browsers and Windows.
- favicon-16x16.png and favicon-32x32.png.
- apple-touch-icon.png (180 × 180) for iPhone and iPad home screens.
- android-chrome-192x192.png and 512x512.png for Android and installed web apps.
- site.webmanifest with your site name and theme color.
- favicon.svg, when you start from an SVG.
Tips
- Simple shapes and bold letters stay recognizable at 16 pixels; fine details disappear.
- The Apple touch icon always gets a background color, because iOS shows transparent areas as black.
- After updating a favicon, browsers may keep showing the old one for a while. A hard refresh helps.
