How to remove metadata from a photo

  1. Choose or drop a photo (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC or AVIF).
  2. Check the list of metadata that was found, such as GPS location or camera model.
  3. Press Remove Metadata.
  4. Download the cleaned copy. The original file on your device is not changed.

What is removed, and what stays the same

The tool removes metadata by editing the file's structure directly. The compressed picture data is copied exactly as it was, so the image is never re-compressed: quality, resolution and dimensions stay identical.

After cleaning, the new file is scanned again and the result shows whether any metadata is left.

Kept on purpose

By default, photo orientation and the color profile are kept. They contain no personal information, but removing them can make a photo appear sideways or change its colors. You can remove them too under Options.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Your photo is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded to a server. The page is also blocked by its security policy from uploading anything.

அடிக்கடி கேட்கப்படும் கேள்விகள்

What is photo metadata?

Metadata is hidden information stored inside an image file, such as the GPS location where it was taken, the phone or camera model, the date and time, the editing software, and sometimes the author's name or the camera's serial number.

Does removing metadata reduce image quality?

No. This tool does not re-compress the image. It removes the metadata sections and copies the picture data unchanged, so the image looks exactly the same.

Can I remove GPS location from an iPhone photo?

Yes. iPhone photos are usually HEIC or JPEG files, and both are supported. The GPS location is stored in the EXIF data, which this tool removes.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device. Your photo is not uploaded, stored or sent anywhere.

Why is the cleaned HEIC file the same size?

For HEIC, HEIF and AVIF, metadata is overwritten with empty values inside the file instead of being cut out, so the rest of the file doesn't have to be rebuilt. The information is gone even though the size stays the same.

Which formats are not supported?

Camera RAW files (such as CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW and DNG), TIFF, BMP and SVG are not supported by this tool yet.
