How to remove metadata from a video
- Choose or drop a video (MP4, MOV, M4V, 3GP, WebM, MKV or AVI).
- Check the metadata that was found, such as location or recording date.
- Press Remove Metadata.
- Download the cleaned copy. The original file is not changed.
No re-encoding, no quality loss
Video metadata lives in the file's container, not in the picture or sound. The tool edits only the container, so resolution, frame rate, bitrate, picture and sound are copied exactly. It also works on large files (several gigabytes), because the video is processed in pieces instead of being loaded into memory.
| Format | Removed |
|---|---|
| MP4 / M4V / 3GP | Location, device make and model, dates, software and encoder names, titles and tags, XMP, telemetry tracks such as GoPro GPS |
| MOV (iPhone) | Apple QuickTime metadata: location, device, iOS version, creation date, Live Photo ID |
| WebM / MKV | Title, app names, date, tags, attachments (such as cover art), track names, unique file ID |
| AVI | INFO tags (title, artist, software, date), XMP |
Limits
- Data embedded inside the compressed video stream itself (for example encoder settings) is not changed, because that would require re-encoding or rebuilding the file.
- Subtitle tracks are kept, because they may contain real subtitles. Some drones store flight data there.
- Removed metadata is replaced with empty space inside the file, so the cleaned video is about the same size.

Does removing video metadata reduce quality?
No. The video is not re-encoded. Only the metadata in the file container is removed, and every audio and video frame is copied unchanged.
Can I remove the location from an iPhone video?
Yes. iPhone videos (MOV) store the location in QuickTime metadata, which this tool removes, along with the device model, iOS version and creation date.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your video is processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, which also means even very large videos are cleaned quickly.
How large can the video be?
No server-imposed file size limits. The file is processed in slices, so it doesn't need to fit in your device's memory.
Which video formats are not supported?
MTS/M2TS, WMV/ASF and FLV are not supported yet.
