How to compress a GIF
- Choose one or more GIF files.
- Pick Best quality, Balanced or Smallest, and a smaller size if you need it.
- Press Compress and download the smaller GIFs.
How the file gets smaller
- Best quality: looks exactly the same. After the first frame, only the parts that change are stored. Savings depend on the GIF; already well-made GIFs may not shrink.
- Balanced: up to 128 colors, and pixels are simplified very slightly where it barely shows.
- Smallest: up to 64 colors and stronger simplification; very fast animations keep every other frame.
- Size: halving the width and height removes about three quarters of the pixels, often the biggest saving.
Good to know
- The timing, looping and transparency are kept.
- If the result would be bigger than your file, you get your original back, with a note.
- Advanced Options let you choose the colors, how many frames to keep, and whether it loops.
Your GIFs stay on your device
Everything happens in your browser. Your GIFs are never uploaded, and this site's security policy blocks the page from sending files anywhere.

Try Balanced first. If it is still too big, choose a smaller size (75% or 50%) or Smallest.
Will my GIF still be animated?
Yes. Every kept frame is saved, with the same timing.
