How to rename many files

  1. Choose the files to rename.
  2. Set the rules: a new name, numbering, find and replace, prefix and suffix, letter case and spaces. The preview updates as you go.
  3. Download the renamed files as a ZIP, or save them to a folder in Chrome and Edge.

Good to know

  • Browsers can't rename files directly on your disk, so you get renamed copies; your originals are not changed.
  • The ZIP is not compressed, so the files are copied exactly.
  • Numbering can follow the order shown, the file names, the date modified or the size.
  • Names that would be the same get " (2)", " (3)" added, and characters Windows doesn't allow are replaced.

Can I number photos by the date they were taken?

Numbering by "date modified" uses the date your system shows for the file, which is usually the date it was taken or copied.
