PrivTab

Install PrivTab as an app

Open the tools from your home screen, dock or Start menu, in their own window, and use the tools you've opened before even without a connection.

This is the same website, installed by your own browser (a "progressive web app"). There is no separate download and no app store. It takes very little space: pages and tools are saved on your device as you use them.

What the app shows

Saved on this device only. You can change it here at any time, also after installing.

Installing from your browser's menu

  • Chrome, Edge, Brave (computer): click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install PrivTab (in Chrome: Cast, save and share → Install page as app; in Edge: Apps → Install this site as an app).
  • Chrome (Android): open the menu ⋮ and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
  • Samsung Internet: open the menu and choose Add page to → Home screen.
  • Safari (iPhone and iPad): tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Safari (Mac, macOS Sonoma or later): choose File → Add to Dock.
  • Firefox: on Android, open the menu and choose Install or Add to Home screen. Firefox on computers generally doesn't install websites as apps; keep using the site in a tab, or install it from another browser.

Using it without a connection

Each page and tool you open is saved on this device, so it opens again when you're offline. A tool you have never opened needs a connection the first time. Some tools load large extra parts only when you use a feature (for example text recognition languages or video formats); those work offline only if you used them before.

The files you open in the tools are never saved by the app: they stay where they are on your device, as on the website.

Updates and removing the app

The app updates itself: whenever you open it with a connection, it shows the latest version of every page.

To remove it: in Chrome or Edge, open the app and choose Uninstall from its menu; on Android, touch and hold the icon and choose Uninstall or Remove; on iPhone or iPad, touch and hold the icon and choose Remove App; on a Mac, right-click it in the Dock and remove it. To delete the saved pages too, use Clear site data in Settings.
