Why one character can be several codes
Emoji above U+FFFF are written in JavaScript as two \u codes (a surrogate pair), and take 4 bytes in UTF-8. Some symbols that look like one character are several: a flag is two letters, and 👍🏽 is a thumbs up plus a skin tone. The table lists every code point, which also reveals invisible characters.
