How to read text aloud

  1. Paste or type your text.
  2. Pick a voice, the speed and the pitch.
  3. Press Read aloud. Click any sentence to start from there, or pause and stop at any time.

Only voices on your device

Browsers can offer two kinds of voices: those installed on your device and online voices that send the text to a speech service. This page only uses the voices on your device, so your text stays private. Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and ChromeOS all come with several; you can add more languages in your system's speech settings.

Good to know

  • The voices and how natural they sound depend on your device and browser.
  • The speech can't be saved as an audio file: browsers play it directly. To record it, use the Voice Recorder with your speakers on, or your system's own tools.
  • Long texts are read one sentence at a time, which also lets you jump to any sentence.

Why are there no voices?

Some browsers only offer online voices, which aren't used here for privacy. Try Edge, Chrome or Safari on a computer, or install a voice in your system settings.

No. The text is read by your device.
