How to get the hash of a file
- Choose one or more files.
- Pick the hash types: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512 or CRC32.
- Copy the results, or paste an expected hash to compare.
Which hash should I use?
| Hash | Use it for |
|---|---|
| SHA-256 | Verifying downloads; the most common choice today |
| SHA-512 | Verification where a longer hash is required |
| SHA-1 and MD5 | Matching older published checksums. Not safe against deliberate tampering |
| CRC32 | Quick integrity checks, such as in ZIP files |
Large files
Files are read in 4 MB pieces, so even very large files can be hashed without loading them into memory at once. Speed depends on your device.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Your file is processed locally in your browser and never leaves your device. This site has no upload feature, and its security policy blocks the page from uploading anything.

How do I verify a download?
Choose the downloaded file, select the same hash type the website publishes (usually SHA-256) and paste the published value into the compare box.
Will the hash match other tools?
Yes. These are standard algorithms, so the result is the same as sha256sum, certutil or Get-FileHash for the same file.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Hashes are calculated in your browser.
